A New Earth Project

Brand Identity, Creative Direction

What started as a simple need for an icon that could identify approved curbside recyclable products turned into an industry-defining movement. It all began by thinking bigger about brand.

We began by working to understand the core audience. The surfers. The surfboard makers. The suppliers. What change do they need and what do they actually care about?

Instead of a simple corporate packaging certification, we approached the movement like a lifestyle brand, compelling the industry to unite and change the way they package everything.

In other words... how do you make cardboard packaging cool?

The Sunrise E mark emerged out of a desire to communicate 4 key components of the mission. The earth as a whole. The ocean that connects us and sustains us. A principled devotion to true circularity. Infectious optimism and action.

Since launch the brand has gained international attention as the leading sustainable connector between lovers of the outdoors, the companies that make the gear they need, and the suppliers and manufacturers that make it happen. Advocates like Kai Lenny, Cody Townsend, Barton Lynch, Christ Benchetler, and Kimmy Fasani have joined the movement, and continue to rid the world’s oceans, lakes, and rivers of plastic pollution one step at a time.
